THE ELEMENTS
As I started to prepare for Forever in One Second, I realized something exciting that I had not experienced before in my career. It might seem obvious once I mention it, but the truth is that I only really felt it now. By bringing a new world into my performances, the elements I could use to create illusions expanded immensely compared to when I told only a personal story. Yes, it’s true. I could always have used an egg to create an illusion, so why not? Probably because that would feel out of place in my line of work. But when we enter Wonderland in Through The Looking Glass and meet Humpty Dumpty, it drastically changes how that egg is perceived in the performance context. So many decisions made in creating new pieces are about the correct framing, and I constantly remind myself of that. Context might not be everything, but it’s a big part of creating the right environment for magic.
