MISTAKES

I have made a few—actually, more than a few. The problem is not making mistakes but not learning from them. Little mistakes can significantly impact the desired outcome when you play with illusions. In every production I have been part of, a few mistakes are always made, but they are usually solved either in the creation of the show, during tech week, or when we start performing it. And it’s easy to forget them once everything ends up well. You might not learn from them, and you are bound to repeat them in the future.

Since 2017, I have developed a “tool” that has served me well. It’s a simple notebook where I register all the mistakes made in a specific production (at least, the ones I remember). That way, when I start another project, I can go over them and understand if some of the lessons can be applied to the project I am about to start to avoid problems down the line. This will not prevent mistakes from happening but will have an impact. Making decisions in a certain way helps streamline the creative and production process, saving time for everyone involved in the show. This is not a secret, but the inside is filled with secrets I learned from my mistakes, which I hope never to repeat again.
